Create & Publish a Portfolio to Marketplace
What You'll Learn
In this guide, you'll create your first custom investment portfolio, assign holdings and weights, and publish it to Seentio's marketplace so other investors can subscribe and follow your strategy.
Prerequisites
- Account tier: Retail (\(69.99/mo), Professional (\)199.99/mo), or Enterprise
- Active Seentio account with email verified
- Basic understanding of stocks or ETFs you want to include (we'll walk you through adding them)
- Optional: Brokerage connection (SnapTrade) to sync live holdings into a portfolio
Step-by-Step Walkthrough
Step 1: Navigate to the Portfolio Creation Page
- Log in to Seentio.
- In the left sidebar, click Portfolio (or Portfolios if you have multiple).
- Click the + New Portfolio button (green, top-right corner).
- You will see a form with fields for Portfolio Name, Description, and Strategy Type.
What to expect: - A blank portfolio form with placeholder text - A dropdown menu showing strategy templates (optional—you can build from scratch) - A save button at the bottom
Step 2: Name and Describe Your Portfolio
- In the Portfolio Name field, enter a clear, descriptive name.
- Example: "Tech Growth & Stability Mix" or "Dividend Income 2026"
- Tip: Use names that tell other investors your strategy at a glance.
- In the Description field, write 1–2 sentences explaining your investment thesis.
- Example: "A balanced portfolio of large-cap tech stocks and dividend-paying utilities designed for steady growth with lower volatility."
- (Optional) Select a Strategy Type from the dropdown (e.g., "Growth," "Income," "Value," "Custom").
- If unsure, leave as "Custom" and move forward.
- Click Continue or Next.
What to expect: - The form advances to the holdings section - Your portfolio name appears as a header
Step 3: Add Holdings
Now you'll add the stocks, ETFs, or other securities to your portfolio.
- Click + Add Holding (or Add Security).
- A search box appears. Type the stock ticker or company name.
- Example: Type "AAPL" or "Apple Inc."
- A dropdown list will show matching results. Click the ticker you want (e.g., AAPL).
- The stock is added to your portfolio with a default weight (usually 1% or equal-weight split).
Repeat this for each holding you want to add.
Common holdings to consider: - Large-cap tech: AAPL, MSFT, NVDA, GOOGL, META - Healthcare: JNJ, UNH, PFE - Financial services: JPM, BAC, GS - Utilities/Dividends: NEE, D, SO - ETFs: SPY, QQQ, VTI
What to expect: - Each holding appears as a row in a table - Each row shows the ticker, company name, and a weight field - A trash icon allows you to remove a holding
Step 4: Adjust Portfolio Weights
Portfolio weights determine how much of your portfolio's value is allocated to each holding. They must total 100%.
- Click on the Weight (%) field for each holding.
- Enter the percentage you want to allocate.
- Example: If you have 5 stocks and want equal weight, enter 20% for each.
- Example: If you want AAPL to be your largest position, enter 35%; distribute the remaining 65% among other holdings.
- Watch the weight total at the bottom of the table—it will update in real time.
- Once the total equals 100%, the Next or Save button will unlock (turn green).
What to expect: - A running total showing your current allocation (e.g., "92% of 100%") - An error message if weights exceed 100% - Weights are automatically rounded to 2 decimal places
Example allocation (5-stock portfolio):
| Ticker | Company | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| AAPL | Apple Inc. | 25% |
| MSFT | Microsoft Corporation | 25% |
| NVDA | NVIDIA Corporation | 20% |
| JNJ | Johnson & Johnson | 15% |
| NEE | NextEra Energy Inc. | 15% |
Step 5: Review and Backtest (Optional)
Before publishing, you can see how your portfolio would have performed historically.
- Click Backtest or View Performance (if available on your tier).
- Seentio will show:
- Total Return (cumulative gain/loss over time)
- Sharpe Ratio (risk-adjusted return)
- Max Drawdown (worst peak-to-trough decline)
- Annual Return
- A line chart comparing your portfolio to the S&P 500
- Review the metrics and decide if you want to adjust weights before publishing.
- Click Back to edit holdings or weights, or proceed to publish.
What to expect: - A chart showing your portfolio's performance vs. a benchmark (default: SPY) - Metrics calculated from historical price data (typically 1–10 years) - A note if backtesting data is unavailable for newly listed securities
Step 6: Publish to the Marketplace
Once you're satisfied with your portfolio:
- Click Publish to Marketplace (green button, bottom-right).
- A confirmation dialog appears asking:
- "Make this portfolio visible to all Seentio users?"
- "Allow others to subscribe and follow your holdings?"
- Click Yes, Publish to confirm.
- You will be redirected to your Published Portfolio Page, which shows:
- Your portfolio name and description
- Holdings and weights in a table
- Backtested performance metrics
- A Share button and a unique marketplace URL
- A Subscribers count (starts at 0)
What to expect: - A success message: "Portfolio published successfully" - Your portfolio now appears in the Seentio Marketplace - Other users can find and subscribe to your portfolio via search and filters
Step 7: Share Your Portfolio (Optional)
To grow subscribers:
- Click the Share button on your published portfolio page.
- A popup shows:
- A direct link (copy the URL)
- Pre-written social media templates (Twitter, LinkedIn, Reddit)
- A QR code
- Copy the link or share the pre-written message to your network.
What to expect: - A modal with multiple sharing options - The option to track how many clicks your portfolio receives (if tracking is enabled)
Tips & Common Questions
-
Start with 3–10 holdings. Portfolios with too many holdings (20+) are harder for others to understand and rebalance. Aim for focus.
-
Use round numbers for weights. Weights like 25%, 20%, 15% are clearer than 23.7% or 18.9%. Investors appreciate simplicity.
-
Name your portfolio as if it's a product. Instead of "My Stocks," try "Value & Dividends 2026" or "Tech Momentum Play." Clear names attract more subscribers.
-
Update your portfolio regularly. After publishing, rebalance quarterly or when major market shifts occur. Subscribers rely on you to maintain the strategy. Click Edit, adjust weights, and click Update.
-
Monitor subscriber feedback. Once published, Seentio may show subscriber comments or ratings (if enabled). Use this to refine your strategy.
-
Use the screener to find holdings. If you're unsure which stocks fit your theme, visit the Seentio Screener and filter by sector, market cap, dividend yield, or other criteria. Link your stocks back to the screener when describing your portfolio.
How to Track This on Seentio
Once your portfolio is published, you can monitor its performance and holdings:

-
Use the Screener to refine future portfolios: Visit the Screener and filter by sector (Technology, Healthcare, Financial+Services, etc.), market cap, P/E ratio, dividend yield, and more.
